GTT Mechanical is looking for an experienced diesel mechanic to join our close-knit team in Cambridge.

We have been providing mechanical services to local businesses and small fleets for more than 20 years. Our workload covers a broad range of vehicles and machinery, including heavy trucks and trailers, agricultural equipment, construction machinery, diggers, utes and light vehicles.

This is a hands-on mechanic’s role—not a foreman or management position. We need someone with sound practical knowledge who can confidently take responsibility for their own jobs while working as part of our wider workshop team.

The work

No two weeks are quite the same. Your work may include:

• General servicing and preventative maintenance

• Fault-finding and diagnostics

• Engine repairs

• Clutch and gearbox repairs

• Brake, steering and suspension work

• Hydraulic repairs

• Auto-electrical work

• Welding and fabrication

• COF repairs and preparation

• Breakdown assistance, jump-starts and field call-outs

The role is primarily workshop-based, with call-out and recovery work when required.

What we’re looking for

The right applicant will have:

• At least three years of relevant mechanical experience

• Strong diesel knowledge, preferably involving trucks, agricultural machinery or construction equipment

• The ability to diagnose faults and complete jobs without constant supervision

• A reliable and practical approach

• Pride in producing quality workmanship

• Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a small team

• A willingness to learn and work across different types of vehicles and machinery

• Their own tools

• A full Class 1 driver licence

A relevant trade qualification and Class 2 licence are strongly preferred, but proven ability and solid practical experience matter most. Assistance may be available for the right person to gain additional heavy-vehicle licence classes.

We may also consider an experienced automotive diesel mechanic who has strong mechanical ability and is ready to move into heavier vehicles and machinery.
